On February 10th, ECF Engineering Consultants visited the Dekalb Christian Home Educators (DCHE), where our Atlanta team members —Rahim, Yasmeen, and Attiyya — guided around 18 enthusiastic students in a hands-on project to build ice chillers. The goal was to create coolers that could keep a refrigerated water bottle colder than one left at room temperature.
The session began with an exploration of insulation materials, as students analyzed and chose the best materials for their designs. They confidently sketched their ideas and collaborated on the construction process. Inspired by a little healthy competition and fueled by a healthy snack break, each group worked diligently to build a chiller that would keep their water the coldest. Project:

At the end of the session, we measured the temperatures of all the groups' bottles every two minutes for about 8 minutes. It was revealed that each group managed to keep their water at least one degree colder than the room-temperature bottle. The successful outcome filled the students with pride and demonstrated important lessons in science, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Overall, the afternoon proved to be a successful and inspiring learning experience, showcasing the creativity and potential of young minds. ECF looks forward to future opportunities to support students in their scientific explorations. Thank you, DCHE, for a wonderful day of learning and collaboration!
